Birmingham Pride 2003
It’s annually the first gay
Pride event on Britain’s gay
calendar and advertised as “the biggest free gay and lesbian 3 day party in the
UK”.
Some of the roads and several local car parks around the gay village are closed
off for traffic during the whole 3 day festival. Instead of one big main stage,
this year there were 4 mini stages with DJ’s and celebrity PA’s playing
throughout the day and evening. Subway
City had a popular dance
tent and the Nightingale
kept its lower ground dance floor open all day too. There was is big funfair
and the traditional village green; this is where one of the car parks it turfed
over with grass for games, competitions and a dog show.
The Birmingham Pride
committee also set up a carnival parade fund and dedicated workshop for people and
venue owners to put together and design flamboyant costumes and floats for a
parade around the city centre on the Saturday afternoon. This year is was as
colourful as ever; check out the photos in these 3 galleries…
Thanks to Upton
Clue and the Pride committee for
their hard work organising the event and making it one of the best ever.
