The
3 day Birmingham Gay Pride festival was held over the bank holiday weekend at
the end of May. This year was the cities first ever “party in the park” were
gay boys and girls celebrated gay pride in Birmingham’s most popular park
Cannon Hill. Although the day was sunshine and showers thousands turned out to
enjoy the main stage, dance tent, community arena and popular cabaret tent. The
parade was held the following day on the Sunday, and although it was clear to
see many hung-over faces amongst all the feathers and glitter it wasn’t long
before the pride atmosphere kicked in.
The
posh department store Selfridges
also had a special Pride event in-store, with special discounts, DJ’s, dancers
and drag queens spicing up the store on level 3. Special thanks to Upton Clue and the Birmingham Pride
committee who worked very hard to bring together this year’s pride festival and
parade. A great weekend was had by all.
