May Bank Holiday Weekend
Birmingham is England’s second largest city and has the UK’s
biggest free 2 day gay party weekend, attracting around 70,000 visitors.
This year’s 2009 parade and party was a huge success due to the hot sunny
weather and massive turnout of people eager to enjoy it. It started with
a colourful parade from Victoria
Square at 1pm on Saturday afternoon, 23rd May. The
main stage then kicked off in the gay village at 3pm – 7pm with stars
such as Sonia, Tara MacDonald, Coco Star, Kelly Pepper
and S CLUB.
Plus with 2 dance Arena’s, a Village Green & market area, fun fair,
Cabaret Marquee and plenty of sexy boy eye-candy; it was a fantastic weekend of
fun.
The Pride
festival took place in Birmingham’s Gay Village,
which covers the area around Hurst
Street, Bromsgrove
Street and Essex Street. The event had a green theme due to it being supported by the Environment Agency.
Spreading a "pink
meets green" message with a doubling of effort to encourage more people and
businesses to be more environmentally friendly.
The other main
sponsors were Birmingham-based GB Training Ltd, Birmingham City Council as well as the many clubs, bars and
businesses in the village area.
Special thanks to Birmingham's largest gay nightclub – the Nightingale Club.
