Brighton is
only an hour's drive south of London, and a very
popular destination for the London
boys if there're after a weekend away from the city. It's a coastal town with a
fantastic beach (although its pebbles instead of sand) with a pier and other
such attractions. There's also a favourite
gay area on the beach, behind a
discreet mound of pebbles towards the easterly end. A small mini train can
shuttle you up and down if you don't fancy the walk.
Brighton Pride is
always held towards the end of July. This year (2000) the weather was
fantastic. The parade started early at 11:30am from the sea front and finished
at
Preston Park. As usual the park had a fantastic
free festival with many top name acts appearing on stage. There was also a very
popular dance tent provided by
Wild Fruit, cabaret tent, line dancing, market
and fun fair.
Once the park
closed the partying carried on in the clubs till the early hours.
Concord was this year's
official after party venue. Unfortunately its only a
small venue and tickets sold out quick disappointing many people. The other
clubs were also completely full, some people having to wait hours just to get
in. Hopefully next year a bigger venue will be chosen.
In all it was a
great day out and comes highly recommended. Well done to all involved, thanks
;-)
