Brighton is a city on the south coast of England, below London and takes about 1 hour to get to on the train. It’s known as the UK’s gayest city because it has the largest ratio of gay and lesbian people in its population. If you’re American it’s best to describe it like the Key West of Miami or Palm Springs of LA. Gay Pride is one of the cities largest annual events, starting off with a camp, colourful parade and then a free festival in Preston Park.

This year the day started off very wet, but it wasn’t long before the sun appeared and made the day a great success. The massive Wild Fruit dance tent was the most popular attraction, but there was also a cabaret tent, fun fair, market area and of course chill out on the grass to people watch.

Pride in Brighton & Hove promotes equality and diversity, and advances education to eliminate discrimination against the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. It raises awareness of issues by promoting and staging a series of events including Winter Pride and the annual free summer festival and making grants and/or donations to other charitable and voluntary organisations.
