Cardiff Gay Pride Weekend 2005

In the morning before the festival there was a gay rugby tournament held in the park opposite the site. I’ve never played for a gay rugby team (I’ve always played for a straight team), when I heard it was on I thought I’d go along and see what gay rugby was all about. I was really impressed; they were a great bunch of guys. We played 7 a-side with 6 teams that came from all over the UK and abroad, the Cardiff 1^st team won the tournament. The Main Stage was once again the focus of attention at this year’s 2005 Mardi Gras. Over the years some of the country's leading stars have graced the stage, from Darius in 2004 to Lisa Scott Lee and Wales's very own Iris Williams. 2005 was no exception; this year's acts included Steps's Faye Tozer, The Boy George Experience, Kelly Wilde, Nicki French, Noel Sullivan, Gina G and Cardiff's very own "crazy chick" Charlotte Church! There was also a two hour set hosted by Red Dragon FM and a huge finale!

2005 was Cardiff’s seventh annual Mardi Gras, keeping it a free event is very much down to sponsors and donations on the day. We were there helping to collect money through charity buckets throughout the day, I’m not sure how much we raised, but some kind people were putting £20 notes in our buckets. Thanks to everyone who put something in, I guess my team must have raised over £1000. We were also being sponsored by Cardiff’s X-Pose Gay Gym.

The following day we went surfing (our first time ever) down at Llangenith Beach, with the help from LetsGoSurf.co.uk
