Europe's largest gay winter sports and music festival. It's been five years since the first European Gay Ski Week (EGSW) outing, making the event the biggest, boldest, busiest, fun week in Europe for LGBT Skiers & Boarders. People came from over 40 countries making it a truly international experience.
This season's snowfall was more than in the living memory of most Alpe d'Huez residents and was the most snow I'd ever experienced. We were simply off piste all day in fresh powder. The resort had the best conditions possible with well over 200cm on the lower slopes and 400cm on the higher slopes, I think during just one night we had about half a meter of snow. There were organised guided groups throughout the week for beginners, intermediate, advanced and for the first time this year we had off piste guided groups.
Also unique to this year we were able to be in two country's on the same day... have lunch in Italy and dine in France. Encompassing the entire Grande Galaxie Ski Area. The Alpe d'Huez 2013 lift pass included free access to Serre Chevalier, Montegenève, Sestriere, Puy Saint Vincent, Les Deux Alpes and La Grave. A total of over 1000km of the most varied and often challenging European ski terrain was on offer. One thing was for sure, we never out-skied the ski week!
We couldn't out-party the parties either. The daily Après Ski has become legendary with MC Tonnic and trumpetman DJ Gordon Edge. Its these events alone that make Gay Ski Week what it is. The organizers know that we come to the EGSW not just for the bonhomie (and bonne girlie) fun to be had with so many old and new gay friends, but because of the fantastic unique parties. We have attended every year and can see that the night time activities have improved year on year, providing the best club brands, international DJs and top cabaret.
The two biggest and most favorite parties of the week were the White party (WE snow ball) and Black Party (Hustlaball). Both events sold out on the door making the venue packed with party people. Everyone seemed to make the effort to get dressed up in wacky sexy costumes. Gay will be gays and as you'd expect the outfits were very creative, and some not leaving much to the enagination!

All in all we had a great week, the snow, the sun, the people, the parties and all the fun.
We look forward to seeing all our friends again next year for the 6th European Gay Ski Week:
22nd - 29th March 2014 in Alpe d'Huez
Stick the dates in your diary!
