Manchester Gay Pride 2004

The 2004 Manchester Gay Pride festival, which stretched over 10 days, was a massive success and raised may hundreds of thousands of £’s for charity. The highlight was the parade on Saturday 28 August which saw crowds of people seven or eight deep lining the city’s streets to see over 60 gloriously decorated floats representing organisations from across Manchester. This included the largest contingent ever seen from the Lesbian and Gay Police Association and members of the RAF who were using the event to promote diversity and draw recruits from the gay community.

Sponsored by Queer and Essential, the pride main stage featured a host of stars giving support and entertaining the throngs of party goers. Ranging from families with young children to pensioners. Notable among them were Big Brother winner Nadia, Savage Garden singer Daren Hayes and pop diva Angie Brown whose appearances left the crowd baying for more. Then the big dance event in the evening was Federation and Uni Challenge at Manchester University’s Student Union. It featured 5 dance arena’s from 10pm till 10am and outdoor fun-fair.
